Aretha Greatrix, also known as SimplyAretha, is a member of the Kashetchewan First Nation (Albany Band), but she was born and raised in Edmonton, AB. Her academic journey includes an Applied Degree in Professional Writing from MacEwan University (2018) and an M.A. in Communication and Technology from the University of Alberta (2023).
Aretha, an Indigenous storyteller and content creator, is the Owner and Executive Producer of Ready Up Productions Inc. Her creative endeavours include producing documentaries on residential schools, reconciliation, and the Sixties Scoop. As a storyteller, she uses her storytelling skills to delve into and educate people on Indigenous issues. Aretha’s foray into the streaming and gaming industry began during the pandemic, when she initiated streaming on Twitch and advocated for Indigenous representation in gaming and the streaming industry. She is a part-time streamer and content creator on Twitch, TikTok, and YouTube.
Aretha is a passionate advocate for Indigenous representation in media. As Co-Founder and Co-Leader of the Indigenous Alliance on Twitch, she collaborates with Twitch Guilds and Staff to amplify Indigenous voices. And has started conversations with YouTube to inquire how they support and uplift Indigenous voices. Aretha is a storyteller who uses her still to network and build community. Her next adventure will be entering the world of game development.
